TILLAMOOK, OR – March 17, 2010 - The Tillamook PUD Board of Directors has awarded funding under its 2010 Community Support Grant Program to 16 non-profit organizations in Tillamook County. Those receiving awards are the Pacific City/Nestucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, Tillamook County YMCA, Tillamook Senior Citizens Center, Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, Manzanita Farmers’ Market, Northwest Regional ESD, Latimer Quilt & Textile Center, Salvation Army, Port of Garibaldi, North County Recreation District, North Coast Seafood Festival, Tillamook Habitat for Humanity, Tillamook United Methodist Church, CASA of Tillamook County and the City of Bay City.
Tillamook PUD developed the Community Grant Program to assist local non-profit organizations in funding projects designed to promote economic growth in Tillamook County. In evaluating and selecting projects for funding, the Board focused on the enhancement of economic development, in addition to community livability, financial need and the ability for project completion by the end of the year.
Historically, and by statute, PUDs are formed not only to provide power, but also to promote economic development within their service areas. This is the ninth year the Board has budgeted funds for the community grant program and feedback has been positive. Recipients have reported that in many cases, the PUD grant funds were instrumental in securing additional funding from other sources.
